The Ites of March...
a musical staged by NgeeAnn Poly...
have you ever watch a bad movie...
and the only reason you watched it because someone you like was in it...
and you resist the urge of walking out of the movie...
because you really want to catch that someone...
well...that would be the perfect example of the ites of march...
it was so painful that i've contemplated walking out of it....
a total of 15 times....
that was first half of the musical of course...
first half...
a guy on stage starts of the musical...
sounded like a squeaky mouse, off tune, off beat, off the spotlight...
cesar played by a chinese guy, tried to do an accent...that didn't go too well either...
brutus played by a malay guy, had such a thick malay accent, he sounded like a mut rather than the noble roman brutus who killed cesar...
marc anthony was played by a girl...
and was disturbing to watch when cleopatra had a love duet with "him"...
both actress/actor were competing who could sound higher and pitchier...
cesar this cesar that...
felt like eating cesar saland after all the comotion about cesar...
still no sign of dhanah singing yet....
second half...
it was all a blur...
this was when my patience was wearing very thin...
laughed at actors who could not sing(everyone)...
it was so painful that germaine and sherri had to endure 1 and a half hours worth of...
(me)...
" please kill me now"...
"do you think the roses that we bought, i''ll chew the stem and stab myself",
"do you think from where we're seating, do you think i can jump down"
"lets ditch it and tell dhaniah we enjoyed it alot"
"i am so bloody hungry"
"when will dhaniah sing....does she even have a singing role?"
we have actors who look like they can hold a tune..
crumble before the stage's lights...
you could hear people talking into their mics back stage giving each other directions...
actors standing in the dark for minutes...
and lights cue were way off...
scenes came and went with dhaniah in it...
all she did was acted...
she was strong in her presence...the audience loved her...
and everytime she was onstage..there was a connection...
she was briliant...
everytime we anticipated her to open her mouth and break into a musical...
she walks off stage...
then...when all hopes of dhaniah salvaging the musical was almost gone...
dhaniah breaks into a song...
and the crowd is relieved....
it was a musical afteralll...
she hit every high notes...and gasped for air and the right shots...
she was the reason why we put ourselves into such a torture...
she was amazing...
the only actor who could actually act and sing.... well...
dhaniah...no matter how brilliant you were... the musical sucked...
when the musical ended...
only half of the audience was left...
we love you dhaniah....
but it really sucked....
it will haunt me the rest of my life...
