caught a play at the esplanade a few hours ago...
queen ping...
directed by natalie, amazing director i worked with many moons ago...
In the bloodythirsty game of human ping-pong, only one can emerge victorious...
the loser faces certain death...
the queen bee sits on her throne...
watching with such intensity...
she slips and slides...
watching...
watching...
her head turning on an axis...
the bristles on her back erect...
her sting so ready it's aching...
then all of a sudden...
the agonisind cry of defeat...
AND IT'S ALL OVER.
THE TIME HAS ARRIVED.
THE WORLD HAS STOPPED FOR ONE PERSON.
AND THE BITCH BEGINS TO FEAST.
queen ping is about how power, identity, control and sexuality play out in the lives of four people whose paths connect and collide in present day reality and in the realm of dreams and fantasy...
the play was provocative and wildly amusing...
not because throughout the whole play...
the outline of the actors genitals were on display...
and it didn't help that they were shoving it into the audience's face...
10 seconds into the play...
the first nudity comes along...
an old british man strips and starts humping a wall...
many more scenes of vulgar nudity being put on display...
like stale meat on a butcher's slab...
i guess thats what makes the play intensely edgy...
borderlining vulgar and tastefullness...
lighting and sounds were spectacularly amazing...
the sets were simple yet a visual feast to the eyes...
with predominatley red and white forming the backdrop for the play...
there was a part in the play that made my stomach churn...
even harder then the spoilt sushi i had to endure constipating for hours before...
the part when one of the actor takes out a whole stack of 50 smackaroos...
and flings it at another actor's face...
and ANOTHER actor takes out yet ANOTHER huge stack of 50 smackaroos...
and flings it across the stage...
yes...
more than a thousand dollars worth of 50 dollar bills were being used as props...
and they say singapore government's not supporting the local art scene...
